Roudha Bin Bahr, an Emirati Chemical Engineering student will be the first engineering student to compete in the WorldSkills 2017 competition, it was announced.
The competition is the world’s biggest international vocational skills competition to be held in the UAE for the first time from Sunday to October 18.
Bin Bahr is the only female engineer to compete in the Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning category, one of 51 skill categories in the competition. Prior to WorldSkills, she participated in EmiratesSkills, where her talent and dedication drove her to success.
Danfoss engineers technologies pledged to support Bin Bahr on her journey leading up to and throughout the competition.
“I wanted to work with Danfoss after finding out about their innovative online learning platform and the training schemes they create for young people. I have learnt so much from my time with my mentor, Sami Jamil, who is one of the technical engineers at Danfoss — this is one of the most exciting parts of this experience and I find him very inspiring,” she added.
In order to win the competition, Bin Bahr must show her skills in the manufacturing of refrigeration and air-conditioning products. The key elements of a successful candidate include a good understanding and ability to work on refrigeration systems, piping, electrical wiring, and component and system installation. She must also demonstrate safe working practices throughout the competition, and should portray her knowledge and ability to replace refrigeration parts, as well as diagnose and repair malfunctions.
The competition will be welcoming over 100,000 visitors from around the world to the Adnec in Abu Dhabi. The closing ceremony will take place at the Abu Dhabi Du Arena on October 19.
