Muslim BJP worker restricted to wear burka in Chief Minister’s function

Prior to a public addressing by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to begin, three women police officers asked a woman to remove her burka, a traditional veil worn by Muslim Women.

A picture captured by journalists shows three women cops gesturing a Muslim woman to remove the burka she wore. The woman is seen first taking off a saffron scarf from around her neck. With the continuous prompting by the officers, she took off the burkha.

Promising an inquiry, a senior police officer police said they just had a black flag alert. The woman, who identified herself as Saira, said she was a BJP worker and had come to the rally from her village wearing her “traditional dress”.

The district Police Chief Anil Kumar, who was in charge of security for the rally, said there would be an inquiry. He said that we had instructions that there should be no black flags shown at the rally. I will get this looked into. One cannot forcibly make anyone remove a burkha,” said Anil Kumar.
