Devendra Fadnavis left red-faced after the claim of ally partner Siva Sena MLA

An MLA Prakash Anandrao Abitkar from alliance partner, Shiv Sena raised doubts over the functioning of the state’s online payment system meant for smooth implementation of the loan waiver scheme.

MLA left Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis red-faced after he claimed he was on the list of beneficiaries for the farm loan waiver scheme.

The embarrassment came a day after the Chief Minister had pointed to the former Congress-NCP government-appointed Kolhapur District Co-operative Bank for allegedly disbursing Rs 37 lakh into the account of a well-off family through its loan waiver scheme.

Abitkar said that I was stunned when I came to know my name was on the green list of beneficiaries. He said he was further shocked when he got to know the list contained the names of others who were not eligible too.

“The state information and technology (IT) department should be more vigilant while releasing the money,” Abitkar said.

As per the state government’s norms, members of the Zilla Parishad, municipal corporators, MLAs, and MPs are not eligible for the loan waiver scheme. “I had not applied or registered my name anywhere to seek benefit under the loan waiver scheme. Apart from me, a school teacher, a state government employee and a retired principal are among those on the list,” he said.

Presiding officer Yogesh Sagar instructed the state government to take note of all issues raised to the point of propriety and reply to the respective legislators within a specified period.
