BJP seeks the support of Chandra Babu Naidu on Triple Talaq Bill

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely seek the support of Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu in passing the Tripe Talq bill in Parliament. Though BJP was able to pass the bill in Loksabha, in Rajyasabha they were not able to pass it owing to the vehement opposition of Congress and many other parties which also included Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party.

Though Chandrababu Naidu doesn’t oppose the bill, he opposes the criminalisation of Triple Talaq. There are reports that he will be meeting PM on January 12th.

Since the Centre wants the triple talaq Bill to be passed without the changes demanded by Opposition parties, Mr Modi may seek the support of his Telugu Desam ally in the Rajya Sabha in getting the Bill passed in its present form.

After the Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha, Naidu had said that the TD would support the Bill but there should be no criminal action over and above the regular court-administered process of divorce.

He is of the opinion that if Triple Talaq becomes invalid then one should follow the procedures of divorce and no criminal charges should be framed against the man as it will aggravate the problem.

PM wants the support of Telugu Desam party if the centre decides to send the bill to Select committee. BJP wants TD to support the stand of BJP at Select Committee.
