The man who killed his minor daughters executed

John David Battaglia a former accounted who was found guilty of killing his two daughters was executed at Texas on Thursday night.

He was found guilty of killing his 9-year-old daughter, Faith, and her 6-year-old sister, Liberty in May 2001. They were at Battaglia’s apartment for a scheduled visit while the horrific murder took place.Battaglia and his wife had separated.

His execution was done by injecting poison. It is the third execution this year in the USA and all have occurred in Texas. The punishment was carried out after the US Supreme Court rejected appeals from his lawyers to review his case, contending the 62-year-old was delusional and mentally incompetent for execution.

While he was taken to the death chamber, he smiled at the witnesses there which included Mary Jean Pearle, mother of the slain girls.

Asked by the warden if he had a final statement, the inmate replied: “No,” then changed his mind. “Well, hi, Mary Jean,” he said, looking and smiling at his ex-wife. “I’ll see y’all later. Bye.” After that, he told the warden: “Go ahead, please.”

The execution was carried out as his appeal was rejected by the5th US Circuit Court of Appeals.
