Scheduled Caste student trashed by senior students inside college

In a shocking incident a student was attacked by his seniors in Delhi. Ashish Beniwal, a student of Delhi University’s Dyal Singh College was allegedly beaten up by his seniors over his caste. The 18 year old Ashish is currently admitted to hospital. Two of his friends were also beaten up.

The incident took place during the college festival that was held on February 7. Ashish is a first year BA student in the college who belongs to the Scheduled Caste. He said that he, along his friends, was having lunch when his seniors came and attacked them without any provocation.

The seniors used glass bottles and ice pick to attack them with Ashish suffering a serious injury on face resulting in 14 stitches. The three seniors who allegedly assaulted the friends were identified as Ankit Dahiya, Sunil Sheoran and Sunny Gujjar. The police have arrested the three culprits who were later released on bail.

According to Ashish the three accused had earlier started an argument with him and his friends. The accused, belonging to the Jat group, started the brawl over caste grounds. Later they broke a glass bottle and threw it on Ashish’s face. His friends were also beaten up by the seniors for trying to intervene in the issue. The friends sustained minor injuries. Ashish said that he was lucky enough to move head so that his eyes did not get hurt.

Ashish revealed that he was attacked before also and when he tried to complain the police forced them to change their minds. On the other hand, the police said that the victims did not allege any caste-based attacks when they made the complaint earlier.
