FOUR THINGS TO BE EXCITED ABOUT TONIGHTS DD – KKR CLASH

Delhi Daredevils is having a forgettable IPL so far despite having a formidable eleven with ample bench strength.

One would have hoped Gambhir to turn the fortunes of DD this season, but despite starting the season with an impressive 50, the former KKR captain has failed to deliver and eventually stepped down as the captain. DD, amidst all the woes, takes on the mid-table – KKR tonight. Here are five things to look forward to the exciting clash.

Shreyas Iyer as captain

The absence of Gambhir puts Shreyas Iyer into the captaincy. Hailed as Indias future batting prospect, it will be interesting to see how the youngster will respond to the additional pressure and responsibility. The knock he played in the last match, although in a losing cause, showed that the Delhi batsman can perform under pressure. Fingers crossed!

How DD responds to Gambhir’s absence

The collective response of the team to the change in leadership will be interesting. Jacques Kallis thinks that the stepping down of Gambhir could galvanize the entire DD team. The former South African all rounder’s opinion could well turn out to be true and we might see an inspired performance from Delhi tonight.

Maxwell v Russell tussle.

Two of the modern day T20 greats – Maxwell and Russell both features in the match. Although doubt looms around the fitness of Russell, KKR will be keen to play him in the eleven as a pure batsman. Maxwell so far had an ordinary season and will be keen to reverse his fortunes. But it remains to be seen if Jason Roy will be preferred to Maxwell.

Prithvi Shaw on the show

With Gautham Gambhir probably going to sit out for the match, Prithvi shaw is almost certain to open the innings. Known for making loads of runs in the domestic circuit and often talked about as the next Sachin in the making, Shaw will draw a lot of eyeballs tonight.

Delhi Daredevils finds itself in a position where they have to win at least 7 of their remaining matches to have any realistic hopes of making it to the playoff. KKR will be keen to reaffirm their position in top 4. This could be another last over finish!
