Hawaii Volcano erupts, thousands are evacuated

Kilauea volacano in the US state of Hawaii erupted and released lava yesterday. The lava has spread to residential places and has prompted a compulsory evacuation. According to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory the eruption caused problems to Leilani Estates, which is a sub division in the lower East Rift Zone of Kilauea volcano. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory confirmed lava at the surface in the eastern end of subdivision. The governor’s spokesperson, Cindy McMillan said that around 1700 people in the Leilani Estates are under the evacuation order.

Governor David Ige said he has initiated the Hawaii National Guard to help with the evacuations and security. He urged the residents in Leilani estates and surrounding areas to be alert and to prepare and keep their family safe. The evacuation came after many earthquakes rattling the place. The magnitude of the biggest earthquake was 5 followed by two more of intensity 2.5 and 2.7. All together there were six hits after the most severe one. The frequency of minor earthquakes has however decreased on thursday.

Kilauea is one among the worlds most active volcanoes. It is located in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which has been closed for the possibility of an eruption. The spree of earthquakes have started from monday . Since that, about 250 earthquakes were reported in the area. The ongoing tremors have scared the residents who have been reporting vibrations all the time. Some have even reported cracks in roads.
