24.82km Magenta line connecting Noida-Janakpuri;cutting down travel time to Gurgaon

With another major feather in the cap of infrastructural developments in India, earlier today Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had inaugurated the 24.82 km long Kalkaji Mandir-Janakpuri West stretch of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line. Now with the inauguration, entire Magenta Line will be operational connecting Botanical Garden in Noida with Janakpuri in West Delhi.

Currently, it requires 90 minutes to travel from Noida and Gurgaon, and with Magenta Line becoming operational it will be cut down to 50 minutes. With the passenger service expected to begin at 6 AM on Tuesday, Magenta Line has 16 stations with 14 underground and two elevated. The interchange facilities on this corridor are Hauz Khas(with Yellow Line) and Janakpuri West(with Blue Line), and the existing Kalkaji Mandir Station(with Violent Line). This stretch is the longest one among the opened stretches as part of the Delhi Metro’s Phase-III project. Now with the opening of the current stretch, the entire Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden Magenta Line corridor, which covers city’s arterial Outer Ring Road has become operational.

The operation in the new corridor will start with 24 trains, which will be increased to 26 gradually. The frequency of train service will be 5 minutes and during peak hours it will be 15 seconds. If the traffic pattern supports, shorter intermediate loops and higher frequency will be introduced.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal promised at the inaugural event that a decision regarding the delayed Phase IV of the Delhi Metro network with an operational span of 277KM will be soon taken by the government.
