Honour Killing in Kerala: S.I Shibu – An Officer With a Shady Past?

Gandhinagar Sub Inspector Shibu, who has been in the news for all the wrong reasons doesn’t have history that refutes the current allegations against him.. The officer is not known best for his friendly approach to people or solving crimes in time.

District Special Branch had earlier filed a report that Shibu helped a suspect in a theft case. This case was registered in Kottayam west police station and it was about the stealing of a Bullet motorcycle. Special branch officials have confirmed that the report was filed and Shibu’s involvement in trying to settle the case in favour of the accused was found and reported.

Shibu’s dereliction of duty was more evident in the current Kevin murder issue. Aneesh, friend of Kevin ,explains the officer’s approach in the case. According to him, When Neenu’s parents had lodged a complaint that her daughter is missing, police called both Neenu and Kevin in to the station. Aneesh showed the documented evidences of marriage between Neenu and Kevin, but the officers asked to wait until the arrival of S I.

When he finally came, he refused to check the documents and wanted to meet Kevin and Neenu. When they came, S I grabbed Neenu’s hands and pushed her towards her father and asked him to drag her in to the car. Her father had to beat and drag a steadfast Neenu who refused to go with them. When Aneesh and his friends tried to interfere, they were silenced and asked not to poke their head in to the matter. Aneesh said that the inspector even exhorted the father to kick her.

Suddenly the commotion started grabbing a lot of public attention and it was then that the inspector asked to bring her in to the station.

Later Neenu held firm on her stand that she wants to go with Kevin. The inspector showed a similar callous attitude when on Sunday, Kevin’s parents came to file a complaint about their missing son. Aneesh says the members of the gang had their presence around the police station. But when this was brought to the attention of police, they asked him to wait until CM’s programme was over.
