What is the primary duty of a Home Minister? Correct me if am wrong, but I think its to ensure the safety and security of the lives of people. But then If you as a home minister have to take a long convoy wherever you go and the policemen think the life of an ordinary citizen is not as valuable as the minister, then soon Home minister will be in a position where his primary duty will be relegated to ‘suspending’ police officers and ‘providing’ jobs to widows. Kerala’s Law and Order machinery is failing like it has never before and Pinarayi Vijayan seems to be the last person to be aware of it .

Neena, the unfortunate wife of Kevin, had filed a complaint on Saturday morning that her husband was missing. Soon her relative added more detail to the complaint including the number of the car in which he was abducted. Reports say Police had spoken to the goons while Kevin was still in their custody. The car must have taken a main route passing many police stations on its way. A simple wireless message to any other station could have stopped them on their way. A five minutes call to the cyber cell could have helped them triangulate the position of the mobile phone with pinpoint accuracy, there were plenty Police could have done and yet nothing transpired in to action.
Could we all blame it on the Officer? Sure, but then the pertinent question is from where do the officers gather such audacity to consistently deny justice to citizens? Kevin’s death has stark similarities to Sreejith’s and Liga’s case in the way police handled it. The Officers never feel threatened to deny justice as they know that repercussions wont go beyond a suspension and may be a week of embarrassment.
So Where was our Chief Minister yesterday? What was this function that he so desperately had to attend that an army of officers had to be laid around him? He was in a function that was organised by ‘Tangu Brother’ , a Christian priest with a shady past. When CM’s programme for the day was charted, the State Intelligence, if it exists, would have definitely warned him about Tangu’s past and the possible issues that may ensue if he associate with him. But CM found time for him, ironically the police couldn’t find time for Kevin.
