Students and 1 teacher run over by passing SRTC bus

While driving one has to be careful of the other on the road. This driver’s carelessness has lead to the death of students and teachers.

In a tragic incident, eight students and a teacher were run over by a roadways bus on Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Kannauj on Monday morning. Out of eight students, six were reported to have been killed and two others were admitted to a hospital in critical condition. A teacher has also been mowed down, taking the toll to seven. 

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of those killed in the bus accident in Kannauj and an ex gratia of Rs 50,000 each for those who received injuries in the mishap. The students, who studied at a college in Sant Kabir Nagar, were going on a trip to Haridwar with their teachers. A police spokesperson said the accident happened in Tirwa area of Kannauj district at around 4.00 am.

As the bus they were travelling in ran out of diesel, the driver stopped the vehicle on the expressway. He began arranging for the diesel from the other bus in which another group of students was travelling. 

Meanwhile, as some students came out and stood around their bus, a Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus came from behind and hit them. “The accident occurred when students were filling diesel from one bus to another and were run over by another bus which was passing by,” the police spokesperson said. 

“As of now seven persons, which include a teacher and students have died, while two others are injured,” he added.
