MicroSoft Beats Google and Google Admits Defeat

Google or Microsoft? You have your preferences or perhaps you prefer each tech giant on specific situations. So Google could be your preferred search engine over MSN, but maybe Windows is your preferred O.S. But which one of them is really better? The debate goes on, but a Google Executive has admitted the tech giant losing out to Microsoft on buying GiftHub.

Speaking at a Fortune Magazine event yesterday, Diane Greene Google’s head of cloud made an interesting admission. “I wouldn’t have minded buying them, but it’s OK,” said Greene. Google was also trying to acquire GiftHub along with Microsoft’s bids. But then why did GiftHub founder, Chris Wanstrath eventually chose Microsoft? It is because of his friendship with Microsoft CEO Satyam Nadella.

GitHub is a large code repository that has become very popular with developers and companies to host projects, documentation, and code. Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google, and many other big tech companies use GitHub. There are 85 million repositories hosted on GitHub, and 28 million developers contribute to them.

“Microsoft is a developer-first company, and by joining forces with GitHub we strengthen our commitment to developer freedom, openness, and innovation,” said Nadella said when news of the GitHub acquisition was first announced. By acquiring GitHub, Nadella is hoping to restore growth and attract third-party developers to Windows.
