Ever heard of a ‘reading wall’? Here is what it is

You must have heard of the ‘Great Wall of China’ and even the mourning wall of Israel. But have you heard of a ‘reading wall’?

As part of Reading Week observance, around 13,000 students observance, around 13,000 students of St Mary’s Higher secondary school, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram came together to form a ‘reading wall’ at school premises on Monday at 09:30 AM.

Braving rain, the students came together to read books as part of ‘One hour for reading’ event organized by the state government.

Principal Father C C John said that the huge gathering of students will be included in Incredible Book of Records (IBR. IBR representatives were present to access the event.

The principal inaugurated the event by reading a classic novel. Headmaster Aby Abraham too read excerpts from a novel. Then students started reading novels, poems and stories of ONV Kurup, Sugathakumari, Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, Kunjunni Mash and Sukumar Azhikode, among others.

As part of the event, libraries were arranged in 225 classrooms in the school. The principal said that class libraries will ensure that all students are able to access books.
