BJP MLA’s new controversy: “Would shoot down intellectuals & seculars”

After "work for Hindus, not Muslims" controversy

BJP MLA creates a controversy where he stated that he would order the shooting down of the intellects and the seculars who are a threat to the country.

This was said by Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, a BJP leader from Vijayapura, Karnataka. He branded the liberals and intellectuals as anti-nationals.

“These people (intellectuals) live in this country and use all the facilities for which we pay tax. Then they raise slogans against the Indian Army. Our country faces grave danger from intellectuals and seculars than anyone else,” Yatnal said at a Kargil Vijay Diwas event on Thursday.

During the speech, Basanagouda dubbed intellectuals as anti-nationals and questioned their wisdom for raising allegations against the Indian Army.

Both Congress and JD(S) have asked for action to be taken against Yatnal.

Under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, Yatnal served as minister of state for Textiles and Railways between 2002 and 2004.

In 2010, Yatnal had quit the BJP to join the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD-S).

A year later, he became an independent MLC after quitting the JD(S).

However, Yatnal returned to the BJP in 2013.
