Another Example of Pathetic Personal Freedom Under Communist Government

Man Arrested During Live TV Interview For a Reason You Won't Believe

Communist Party in India may speak at length about the freedom of expression but the global examples of communist governments cuts a contrasting and sorry picture. China is no exception to this, the country is notorious for not taking even constructive criticism against the government and the media is stifled. In the latest incident that underlines the pathetic plight of personal freedom in China, a vocal critic of China’s government has disappeared after security forces strong-armed their way into his home in the middle of a phone interview with a US-funded television network.

Sun Wenguang, a retired academic who is in his mid-80s, was speaking live to a Chinese-language television show for Voice of America (VOA) when the authorities suddenly showed up.

“The police are here to interrupt again,” Mr Sun said from his home in Jinan in the eastern province of Shandong, counting as many as eight intruders as he spoke in an audio broadcast on Wednesday.

“It’s illegal for you to come to my home. I have my freedom of speech!” are the final words heard from Mr Sun.

Wenguang Sun, a retired Shandong University professor, has not responded to VOA since the incident, the news outlet reported. Nobody knows about his whereabouts and it is possible that he is in secret captivity of the army men somewhere.

Repeated calls by AFP to his mobile and home phone number went unanswered Friday, as did messages sent via social messaging app WeChat. Calls to the Jinan public security bureau and the publicity department of Shandong University, his former employer, also yielded no response.
