Very important decisions from Osmania University about Rahul Gandhi

were the officials pressurized?

Like most leaders, Rahul Gandhi too has decided to visit the state of Telangana and have a talk with the students of the Osmania University. Only that the students’ request have been denied & Rahul Gandhi cannot enter the college.

Now, what was the reason for his ban?

Osmania University (OU) officials on Friday denied permission for Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s August 14 interaction with students on the varsity campus on security grounds.

Rahul Gandhi was set to visit Telangana on the 13-14th of August, had plans to meet up with the student leaders who partook in the Telangana agitation.

But the University’s letter had shocked the students: “The Osmania University has declined the request made by student organizations regarding Rahul Gandhi’s visit to OU due to security issues as he is under special security cover,” reads the letter signed by the joint director of estate cell N Venkateshwarlu.

To the media, OU vice-chancellor S Ramachandran said: “We have various student organizations in the varsity. While one organization is looking forward to the visit of Gandhi, others are against it. So, we have decided to decline permission for his visit as we want to maintain peace on the campus.

If it was some local leader, we would have allowed, but Gandhi is a tall leader, who is having ‘Z’ category security cover. Our campus is open and providing security to him will be difficult. If any untoward incident happens during his visit, we will be at the receiving end and we are not willing to take that risk.”

Students, however, have a different opinion. The angry students alleged that chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao pressurized the vice-chancellor into not giving permission. The agitated students demanded the VC either issue permission for Gandhi’s visit or resign. They said that they would move the court on Saturday to get the permission and the visit will go as per schedule.

“When we submitted a representation on August 4, then how can they reject our request today (Friday) citing security reasons. If security is the real concern, they could have notified us on the same day. Instead, they asked us to submit a demand draft of 25,000 to allow permission to organize an interaction programme at Tagore auditorium. Now, they are giving lame excuses, but everyone knows that the CM is behind this move,” said K Manavata Rai, a research scholar.

“Gandhi’s meet has nothing to do with politics. He will be visiting the campus as part of centenary celebrations and will interact with student leaders, who participated in Telangana agitation. There is no reason for the varsity to reject our request,” said Charan Koushik Yadav, a student.

Students said they will continue to protest till the varsity cancels rejection order and issues a permission to organize the interactive session.
