Kerala Floods : Congress slams Centre’s flood relief to Kerala, says Narendra Modi playing politics

Kerala has suffered losses of nearly Rs 19,512 crore in the catastrophic flood. As against the demand for immediate assistance of Rs 2,000 crore for relief and rehabilitation measures, the PM has offered a mere Rs 500 crore. This is nothing but an inhuman approach towards the victims of a devastating natural calamity,’ said Congress.

Telangana Congress party leader  Mr Gudur Narayana Reddy said, ‘So far, more than 324 people were reported dead and thousands are still trapped in the flood water. More than 2.25 lakh people are living in over 1,500 relief camps while the entire Kerala is facing severe shortage of food, drinking water and medicines.

Instead of adopting a liberal approach in extending assistance, Mr Narendra Modi is playing politics by deliberately delaying or denying the required help.’

‘Mr Modi is apparently trying to punish the people of Kerala who do not align with the hate agenda of the BJP. This is completely unacceptable in a democracy. He must realise that he is the PM for the entire country and not just for the BJP-ruled states,’ he said.

Mr Reddy also slammed the BJP leaders for showering praises on the PM for walking 6 km in the funeral procession of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and then proceeding to Kerala for an aerial survey of flood-affected areas.
