Sabarimala Temple: Police asks to declare prohibitory order

Pathanamthitta district police chief has asked the district collector to declare prohibitory order at Sabarimala  Shrine and surrounding places, as the temple will reopen tommarow for ‘Kumbha Masa poojas ( monthly offerings). The district police chief’s reoprt is based on the special barnch report that there is a possibility for widespread protest in Sabarimala.

There occurred violent protest during October when the temple opened soon after the verdict of Supreme court which removed the ban imposed upon women of a certain age group. The protest in Nilakkal, the base camp of Sabarimala pilgrimage turned violent and then a police action has taken place there to handle the situation. Later during the Mandala- Makarvilakku season the district administration has declared prohibitory order and strict police security to avoid violent protest. But many times the situation worsened as women tried to enter the temple.
