Govt will implement SC verdict on Sabarimala, says Pinarayi Vijayan

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said the government will need more clarity on the Supreme Court judgment on the entry of women at Sabarimala temple. The court has referred a bunch of review petitions against its 2018 verdict lifting the ban on women’s entry to a larger bench.

Reacting to the 3:2 majority judgment that has referred the review petitions to a 7-judge bench, Vijayan said, “There needs to be more clarity on this judgment.”He also added, “We have already made it clear that the government is committed to comply by the Supreme Court judgment no matter what it is. As of now we are given to understand that the first verdict is still in place.”

“Now we understand that the SC judgment of September 28 is still in place but we are unclear about the implications. We need to understand the impact of this verdict and will seek legal opinions,” said Vijayan. He also said the government will need some time to understand the Supreme Court’s verdict on Thursday.
