World Cup Final Sparks Surge in Hotel Rates and Airfares.

The anticipation surrounding the ICC World Cup final between India and Australia has led to a surge in hotel room tariffs and airfares to Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Hotel prices in top five-star establishments have soared, with rates hitting as high as Rs 2 lakh for the night of the match. According to Narendra Somani, President of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of Gujarat, the enthusiasm extends beyond India, with international visitors from places like Dubai, Australia, and South Africa eager to witness the event.

With the Narendra Modi Stadium’s capacity exceeding 1.20 lakh, expectations are that 30,000 to 40,000 people from outside Gujarat will attend. As a result, demand for hotel rooms has spiked, prompting significant rate increases. Even non-star hotels have hiked prices five to seven times to capitalize on the influx. Online rates for five-star hotels, such as ITC Narmada and Hyatt Regency, have reached around Rs 2 lakh per night.

In tandem with hotel prices, airfares to Ahmedabad have experienced a substantial uptick from various destinations. Flights from Chennai, typically priced at around Rs 5,000, now range from Rs 16,000 to Rs 25,000 due to heightened demand. Manubhai Pancholi, a travel agent, noted that cricket fans are willing to pay premium prices for this unique opportunity to witness India playing the finals in their home country. The surge in demand for hotels and tickets reflects the fervor surrounding the event.
