LS Adjourned until 2 PM amid opposition uproar

Amid an uproar from the opposition regarding the report recommending the expulsion of TMC member Mahua Moitra from the lower house, Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2 pm. The Ethics Committee Chairman, Vinod Sonkar, presented the committee’s report advocating Moitra’s disqualification, but the lower house did not address the issue. Although the report was initially on the agenda for December 4, it was not tabled.

During the proceedings, Congress Leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury brought up the report suggesting Moitra’s expulsion in a “cash-for-query” case when Speaker Om Birla commenced the Question Hour. Speaker Birla stated that the matter is listed, and MPs will be given an opportunity to speak when the business is taken up. He emphasized that the issue had not been addressed yet and urged members to focus on the Question Hour.

As the uproar persisted, Speaker Birla adjourned the House until 12 noon. Following the adjournment, Mahua Moitra was quoted expressing her perspective, stating, “Maa Durga aa gayi hai, ab dekhenge…Jab naash manuj par chhata hai, pehle vivek mar jaata hai. They have started ‘vastraharan’ and now you will watch ‘Mahabharat ka rann’.”
