Govt intends to implement a bus ticketing system using WhatsApp

The Delhi government is set to introduce a WhatsApp-based bus ticketing system in the capital, modeled after the existing system for the Delhi Metro, according to officials. The city’s Transport Department is actively working on implementing this digital ticketing service for both Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has already established a successful WhatsApp-based ticketing system, initiated in May of the current year and subsequently expanded to cover all metro corridors, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro. Users will have a limit on the number of tickets they can generate.

To purchase Delhi Metro tickets via WhatsApp, passengers need to send a message containing ‘Hi’ to +91 9650855800 or scan the provided QR code. This convenient system allows users to effortlessly buy metro tickets using their smartphones across the entire network. However, ticket cancellations are not permitted in the WhatsApp ticketing process. While a nominal convenience fee is charged for transactions using credit or debit cards, UPI-based transactions incur no convenience fee.
