National Day: Qatar Ruler pardons prisoners

Doha: His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar issued an order today pardoning a number of prisoners. The order was issued to mark the National Day of Qatar.

Every year, during special occasions, rulers of GCC countries  pardon a number of inmates in a compassionate gesture that seeks to keep families together and raise quality of life.

Earlier the Amiri Diwan in Qatar announced holiday for National Day. Residents will get two days of public holidays. The holidays will be observed from Sunday, December 17, 2023 to Monday, December 18, 2023. Employees will return to their official duties on December 19, 2023. The Qatar National Day is celebrated every year on December 18.

Qatar celebrates December 18 as National Day or Founder’s Day to mark the Qatar’s unification in 1878. The holiday was established by a decree issued by the then Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on 21st June 2007.
