This paper company in China rewards its employees based on how much they exercise

Dongpo Paper, a company in China’s Guangdong province, has implemented a unique employee reward system based on physical activity rather than traditional office performance. Instead of yearly bonuses, employees are now evaluated monthly based on their exercise activities such as running, hiking, walking, and other physical exercises.

Under this new program, employees earn bonuses determined by their monthly exercise achievements. For instance, an individual running 50 km in a month receives a full 100% bonus, while running 100 km results in a 130% bonus. Employees who engage in alternative exercises like mountain hiking and speed walking can also earn money, contributing 60% and 30% to the total exercise requirement, respectively.

Monthly exercise targets are tracked through a dedicated app, and the company encourages employees by providing bonuses and subsidies for the purchase of sports shoes based on their running mileage, ranging from 30 km to 100 km.

The company’s boss, Lin Zhiyong, defended the move by stating that a company’s long-term success is tied to the health of its employees. He emphasized the importance of employees being physically fit for a company to thrive, citing his own commitment to encouraging a healthy lifestyle by reaching the summit of Mount Everest twice.

Lin expressed that the new incentive scheme has been well-received by employees, who appreciate the opportunity to keep their bodies healthy while earning additional income. This innovative approach reflects a growing trend in companies worldwide to promote employee well-being and fitness as part of their corporate culture.
