Alappuzha bans sale of chicken, duck meat amid bird-flu surge

Authorities have responded to confirmed cases of bird flu in three locations by imposing a ban on the use, sale, and transportation of duck and chicken meat, as well as manure, within a surveillance zone extending 10 kilometers from the affected areas. This ban will remain in effect until May 8.

The ban encompasses several areas, including Kainakary, Nedumudy, Champakulam, Talavadi, and others, covering a wide geographic area within Alappuzha district. Authorities have instructed the secretaries of the Local Self-Government Departments in these areas to ensure strict enforcement of the ban and prevent the sale and smuggling of eggs, meat, and manure from ducks, chickens, quails, and other domestic birds.

Additionally, tehsildars in Kuttanad and Ambalapuzha have been directed to establish special inspection squads to oversee compliance with the ban and conduct rigorous inspections within their respective jurisdictions. These measures are aimed at containing the spread of bird flu and safeguarding public health in the affected regions.
