Chhattisgarh encounter: Seven naxalites killed by security forces

In a significant development in the ongoing battle against Naxal insurgency, seven Naxalites, including two women, were killed during a clash with security personnel in a forest straddling Narayanpur and Kanker districts in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. This encounter marks the second major confrontation between security forces and Naxalites within a 15-day period.

The firefight unfolded around 6 am in the forest region between Tekmeta and Kakur villages in the Abhujmad area, known as a stronghold for Naxal activity. A joint team comprising the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) was engaged in an anti-Naxal operation when the clash erupted, according to a senior police official briefed by PTI.

After the exchange of gunfire ceased, authorities recovered the bodies of seven Naxalites, including two women, from the scene. Alongside, an AK-47 rifle and a cache of other weapons and explosives were seized. The official indicated that a search operation in the vicinity was ongoing, and the identities of the deceased Naxalites had yet to be confirmed. This incident adds to the tally of Naxalites killed this year in the state’s Bastar region, comprising seven districts including Narayanpur and Kanker, which now stands at 88 according to police reports. On April 16, security forces had engaged and killed 29 Naxalites in an encounter in Kanker district.
