North Korea conducts 12th missile test of the year

North Korea had fired its 12th missile test of the year in Japanese waters. The latest in the series had risen up tensions over the nuclear weapons programme.

Also, it was the third ballistic missile test in many weeks. The short-range missile flew for six minutes. It fell into the Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

“We will never tolerate North Korea’s provocations ignoring repeated warnings from international community,” Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said

“As agreed during the G7 summit, the North Korean problem is the international community’s top priority. In order to deter North Korea, we will take firm action,” he added.

The missile had fled about 450 kilometres before landing in the East Sea of Japan.

“This regime is a threat to Japan and South Korea. And in the event of war, they would bring danger to China and to Russia as well.

“But the bottom line is, it would be a catastrophic war if this turns into a combat if we’re not able to resolve this situation through diplomatic means.” James Mattis, the US secretary of defence said.
