MP farmers’ protest: Rahul Gandhi to meet farmers in violence-hit Mandsaur today

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has left Delhi for Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh where five farmers were killed during protests earlier this week.

As the situation remains tense in Mandsaur, around 325 km from Bhopal, the Congress appears to cash in on the opportunity to build pressure on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The opposition party questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence over the death of five farmers.

Meanwhile, the MP government has transferred both Mandsaur SP and the Collector due to continuous violence in the region.

Farmers in Western Madhya Pradesh are protesting since June 1 over various demands.

The protesters demanding better crop prices, among other things, heckled Mandsaur Collector Swatantra Singh yesterday who denied that police opened fire on protesting farmers.
