State tourism department to implement Kerala Responsible Tourism Mission

The state tourism department plans to implement its ambitious Responsible Tourism Mission, which is aimed at generating more employment and income to the local community at various destinations across Kerala.

State and district RT (Responsible Tourism) cells will be set up in a month’s time under the Mission. It will have a well-defined functional independence.

A separate, formal and professional Mission are required to extend the activities to all destinations, he pointed out.

The project’s annual cost is estimated at Rs 2.19 crore and the government has accorded sanction for the release of fund for the year 2017-18.

The staff of state and district cells will be appointed on the contract basis and their remuneration alone will cost around Rs 1 crore in the initial year.

Once launched, the Mission will initiate community level tourism activities, create tourism trade-community level linkages and encourage adoption of RT principles and practices by tourism trade and all other stakeholders.
