A new drone service is being introduced in the UAE that will soon revolutionise the way food and other home deliveries are done.
A Dubai-based company has just partnered with an American firm to offer customers the opportunity to place their orders – be they grocery items, food or spare parts – and have them delivered to their home within minutes via a self-flying drone.
Eniverse Technologies, a technology group in the UAE, and Skycart, a San Francisco-based drones company, announced on Tuesday that they will start approaching businesses to make the smart solution a reality.
The idea is to deploy self-flying drones that can deliver packages weighing no more than five kilos to customers’ homes across the UAE.
The service is scheduled to launch any time between 2018 and 2019, and will initially operate in select communities, including Emirates Hills, The Meadows, The Springs, The Greens, Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim.
The company, Space Autonomous Drones, is eyeing a collaboration with companies in the logistics, shipping and e-commerce industries, such as Emirates Post, Souq, DHL, Amazon, UPS, Aramex and Alibab Group.
“[The company] will introduce one of the world’s most advanced, sophisticated technologies to the skies above the UAE, which will lead to an outstanding transformation in the logistics and delivery industry,” a statement reads.
Space Autonomous Drones is seeking to tap into the growing market for drones and drone technology in the Gulf which is expected to reach $1.5 billion by 2022 according to Strategy&, part of PWC. The market will also be driven primarily by oil and gas utilities, which are forecast to take a 43 per cent and 32 per cent share of the market, respectively.
Space Autonomous Drones is currently awaiting legal approval from the Dubai Government to start its operations.
