225 bicycles have been seized for failing safety rules

225 bicycles have been seized by Dubai Police in a week for failing to follow safety rules on roads and highways.

Colonel Jamal Mohammad Al Bannai, deputy director of traffic department at Dubai Police, told that most of the bicycles were seized from high ways and busy roads including Sheikh Zayed, Umm Suqeim and Al Wasl.

The confiscation is part of the awareness campaign being carried out by the department to educate the motorists and bicycle riders about the danger of violating safety regulations.

He said during the first half of this year bicycles caused 17 fatal accidents in which 18 people have lost their lives.

Despite a strict ban on bicycles to use roads with speed limit above 60kmph, riders continue to violate the law and expose theirs as well as others lives to dangers
