Techie works abroad comes home, finds mom’s skeleton

An Indian IT professional in the US, found mother’s dead body in her Oshiwara apartment.

The police found the skeleton of Asha Sahani, a 63-year-old widow. An autopsy examination is expected to reveal when the death occurred and the cause of death.

Sahani’s husband Kedarnath died in 2013. Her son, Rituraj, lives in the US. Sahani was living alone and was depressed, according to the police.

Her last conversation with Rituraj was in April 2016. At that time, she had told him that she couldn’t bear to live alone any longer and was moving to an old age home. The two did not converse thereafter.

“On Sunday, Rituraj landed in India unannounced. He reached Lokhandwala complex in Andheri, where his mother lived, around 4.30pm and rang the doorbell. But the door was locked from inside. He then called a key maker,” a senior police officer said.

“A hole was drilled in the door and the latch was opened. On entering the flat, Rituraj found his mother’s skeleton. She was fully dressed,” a senior police officer said.

The Oshiwara police were informed and the body was sent to the Siddharth Hospital’s post-mortem centre. A case of accidental death was recorded by the Oshiwara police.
