Woman killed by husband for failing to crack MBBS

A 25-year-old housewife who failed to crack MBBS entrance exam was allegedly killed by her husband and later set ablaze on Sunday at Rock Town Colony, LB Nagar, Hyderabad. However, the husband claimed that she committed suicide.

Police said that Harika was found dead with burn injuries at the scene of the crime. But the investigators after seeing the location of the offence strongly suspect that she was first killed by someone and later her body was set ablaze.

Rushi Kumar, a software engineer, got married to Harika two years ago and from the beginning, the accused has been harassing the victim. Harika who took the medical entrance test by giving EAMCET exam failed to qualify for MBBS and got selected for Bachelors of Dental Surgery in a private college.

On Monday, Rushi informed Harika’s parents that she died after setting herself ablaze. Immediately when the parents reached LB Nagar, they found something suspicious and alerted the police.

“The dead body was sent for autopsy and based on its report, we can come to a conclusion about the cause of death. The husband claimed that Harika suddenly set herself ablaze at his presence and died. But when we examined the scene of offence, we have doubts about his claims,” Assistant Commissioner of police (LB Nagar) P Venugopala Rao said.

The parents of the victim informed police that Rushi has been harassing his wife as she failed to get MBBS seat. In fact, Harika used to stay separately due to the harassment by Rushi while she was preparing for the exam.

As of now Rushi is in police custody and investigators registered a case under 174 (suspicious death) of Cr.PC.
