Mersal: an entertainment controversy to a political uproar

A week after its release and Mersal is well-known; more for its political clashes with the BJP rather than for its entertainment value.

A complaint has been filed against the Kollywood actor Vijay for showing government schemes in a negative light. The complaint was filed in the Anna Nagar police station, Madurai.

Mersal has been in a tug-of-war between its supporters and adversaries. In a verbal war that followed between the two, various accusations have and clarifications have come to light.

DMK’s spokesperson commented that India is not North Korea that is expected to bend to every whims and fancy of the supreme leader. The removal of scenes is the curbing of the freedom of expression. Whereas the BJP leader SG Suryah was unhappy with the film and its factual mistakes.

The film comments of the lack of free medicine with the GST at 28% which the BJP said is false as there is no GST on medical care in India.

Meanwhile the film’s producer Murali Ramaswamy said that explanations have been give to BJP and if need be the scenes that are misleading will be removed.

Mersal had a opening on its first day and collected over Rs 43.3 crore. Made on a budget of Rs 120 crore, the film is likely to enter the Rs 100-crore club over the weekend.
