Kamal visited the Ennore creek prior to his political plunge

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan visited Ennore creek and the Kosasthalayar river affected with corporate encroachment. Local activist Nityanand Jayaraman, Saravanan of Coastal Resource Centre and fisherman R L Srinivasan of Kattukkuppam have accompanied him. He had criticized the state government for showing apathy towards the stream and warned of floods in Chennai. Kamal Haasan is all set for making a political plunge.

The team reached the spot around 6 am. Nityanand Jayaram said they showed Kamal Hassan the damage done to Kosasthalayar river. He saw the three power plants dotting the Ennore area. Later, the team took him to the fly ash pond, which was spread over 700 acres of ecologically sensitive creek area. The actor said in the 1970s he acted in a Telugu movie, which was shot on Ennore-bridge.

After visiting the Kosasthalayar River and the Ennore Creek, Kamal visited Kattuppakkam village, where he interacted with the fishermen. Locals told him how the encroachments by the Kamarajar port had affected their fishing activities and also the problem faced due to the dumping of fly ash from the three thermal power stations. They also explained to him about how their livelihood was affected due to such man-made problems. The actor spent more than 10 minutes with the fishing community in the village, Nityanand said.

When asked about the intentions of Kamal Haasan, Nityanand said they had no idea about what he (Kamal) was planning for the future. However, they welcome such an effort by the actor like Kamal Haasan, Nityanand added.
