As the nights get longer and the weather gets colder, UAE residents may experience a storm. Here are the details.
The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has completed its preparations for the anticipated weather volatility and instability between December 15 and 18.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), from Friday, the number of clouds will increase in various areas of the UAE, accompanied by heavy rainfall.
“The UAE will be affected by a low-pressure surface area caused by a cold air front from the north, which will gradually increase the level of cloudiness from Friday, including some rain clouds on the northern and eastern regions,” the NCM said.
High and low-pressure surface areas are forecast to increase between Saturday and Monday.
The local NCEMA teams in all emirates have coordinated with the relevant institutions and government authorities to enhance the readiness of appropriate units for the expected weather volatility.
The NCEMA has also coordinated with local emergency teams to confirm their readiness to respond to any emergency resulting from the heavy rainfall. It also urged the general public and people traveling by sea or to mountains, valleys, dams and wilderness areas to be cautious.
Rashid Suwaidan Al Kutbi, chairman of the Emergency and Crisis Committee, held a meeting with municipality officials and representatives of relevant authorities, to set up an effective plan on how to deal with the rain’s aftermath.
During the meeting, authorities agreed to have emergency teams on standby to remove any excess water from roads and residential areas, tackle broken down trees, drain the sewage networks, and ensure that the dams do not leak.
The NCEMA also warned about traveling around valleys and dams and urged the public to be cautious about slippery rocks.
Al Ain residents that face any kind of rain-related emergency or who need assistance are urged to call Al Ain City’s municipality hotline on 993.
Meanwhile, residents in Abu Dhabi can contact the municipality via WhatsApp on 056 993 9930, by email at [email protected], or on the emergency number 993.
