Karnataka: should talk out the problems, not commit murders

It seems as though the people are resorting to the use of violent means to solve a problem, rather than talk it out, This too seems to be one such case.

A Hindu activist was hacked to death in Katipalla, a small town near Surathkal, Karnataka.

It is alleged that the victim identified as 28-year-old Deepak Rao, a resident of Katipalla Kaikamba was riding his motorbike when he was waylaid by a car whose individuals then attacked him around 1.30pm.

The 4 men fled the spot after the crime. Police have reportedly detained 4 accused in the murder of Deepak Rao.

A resident identified as Majid rushed to the spot after he heard Deepak’s screams but by then it was too late.

The police chased the accused in filmy style and fired at them. One accused suffered a bullet injury in the leg. Surathkal police have now taken the accused to the Commissioner’s office in Mangaluru.

The accused were arrested at Mijaru near Moodabidri. A self-declared bandh has been announced. Police beef up forces in Surathkal and Katipalla.

The local police have yet to reveal the motive behind this gory murder but senior leaders belonging to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) have condemned this murder and want the police to initiate a probe immediately.

Rajesh Padmar, RSS spokesperson in Karnataka claimed that workers belonging to the Sangh Parivar have been repeatedly targeted in Karnataka and especially Mangaluru by Jihadi radical elements and no action has been taken against them by the police.

“If somebody has a problem, they should talk it out and not resort to murders like this,” he said.

The Bajrang Dal stated that the deceased used to take part in all Hindu functions as an audience and squarely put the blame on the Popular Front of India (PFI) activists.

Likewise, Jagadish Shenova, President, VHP (Mangaluru district) said that Deepak was murdered just because he was a Hindu.”We will protest all over the district if the police do not nab the culprits as soon as possible,” Shenova added.

Shobha Karandlaje, senior BJP leader, and MP wrote on Twitter that the Jihadi mindset is growing the Coastal parts of the state and that innocent Hindus are being killed.

She took on CM Siddaramaiah asking him where he was when Jihadi forces are operating without any fear in the state.

Soon after the death was reported on social media, shops, schools, and colleges were shut in anticipation of trouble in the town.

Activists belonging to various Sangh groups also assembled in large numbers outside the private hospital where he was shifted for treatment and declared dead.

The police have beefed up security in the town to thwart any chances of protests or communal flare-ups.

It was in the month of December that Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde had urged the Centre to take over all investigations of Hindu activists in the state.

He had alleged that the state government run by the Congress party was only trying to cover up all these murders that were more than 20 odd in number.
