Dubai’s floating house sinks near Burj Al Arab area

For the purpose of entertainment and tourist attraction, the Dubai government has constructed various structures at famous spots.

A platform attached to the famous floating villa in Dubai – off Burj Al Arab – sank on Wednesday due to rough sea.

According to an advisory notice issued by Dubai Maritime Authority, the Kleindienst Group confirmed
that the underwater house’s platform, provided as part of Sea Dubai’s New Year’s Eve event for the DJ and light show was compromised in rough seas and sank on Wednesday.

‘Further to the navigation advisory notice issued by Dubai Maritime Authority, the Kleindienst Group confirms that the platform provided as part of Sea Dubai’s New Year’s Eve event for the DJ and light show was compromised in rough seas and sank on Wednesday. No one was onboard at the time and a recovery exercise is underway to retrieve the platform.’

Dubai Police confirmed the incident, adding that nobody was on board at the time and concerned authorities were attempting to recover it.

Lt. Col. Ahmad Burqibah, Deputy Director of Search and Rescue Department at Dubai Police, said that the port police station received information about the sinking on Wednesday at 12:31 pm.

A rescue team and boats rushed to the scene within few minutes, he added.

Burqibah said that the floating house sank due to rough seas and 8 meter-high waves.
