Relief to H-1B holders in US

In a major relief to the Indian IT professionals working in the US, Trump administration has given hint that it won’t take any measures which will lead to the mass deportation of Indian IT professionals. They said that they won’t deport H-1B visa holders by denying them extensions beyond the maximum permissible period of six years, as they waited for permanent residency.

There are reports that in the US there are about Five lakh Indian IT professionals of which 40% are waiting for Green card.

“…USCIS is not considering a regulatory change that would force H-1B visa holders to leave the United States by changing our interpretation of section 104(c) of AC-21, which provides for H-1B extensions beyond the 6-year limit. Even if it were, such a change would not likely result in these H-1B visa holders having to leave the United States because employers could request extensions in one-year increments under section 106(a)-(b) of AC21 instead,” Jonathan Withington, Chief of Media Relations at US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), told the newspaper.

According to reports in many leading newspapers, Trump administration is tweaking existing policies without much affecting the IT profession but at the same time fulfils Trumps desire Buy American, Hire American plan.

At present American IT companies are facing a great shortage of Skilled professionals, and if the policy is to be implemented as such as reported earlier then these companies would face great problems.

These latest reports of relaxation on H-1B visa will be a relief to these IT companies too.
