Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani visit to Godhra and Lunawada villages in Panchmahalon Saturday has allegedly sparked off a protest by Dalits. The protest was organised by Dalit Hit Rakshak Samiti. Mevani visited the villages as part of a felicitation programme organised by Dalit groups.
Dalit Hit Rakshak Samiti with placards of Babasaheb Ambedkar demanded that Dalit leaders should be like Ambedkar and shouldn’t divide society, which they allegedly found Mevani is doing.

But close aids of MLA rejected that any such protest was organized against Mevani.
Co-convener of Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch, Pratik Rupaya, said, “The news of protests is wrong. Jignesh was at Godhra, Lunavada, and Varatri today. He was invited to a public gathering in the three places to congratulate him for his victory in Vadgam.There has been no protest by any Dalit community.” Mevani later told The Indian Express, “It (the protest) is false news. I have had fabulous meetings here and there has been no protest.”
