Mollywood Actors, who were once Superstars but now just supporting stars

Film Industry sells on the brand of an actor’s stardom. Yes, they’re mutually exclusive but extremely necessary to survive. If you’re an actor, you don’t need any stardom. And if you’re a star, it doesn’t really matter if you can act.

Mollywood prooved that actors once ruled can turn into actors just on screen.

Here are few actors, who were once Superstars but now just supporting stars:

Mukesh

He’s best known for his comic-oriented roles. Mukesh is the current Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.) representing the Kollam constituency of Kerala state. Mukesh began his career through the movie Balloon.

His major hits were directed by the duo Siddique-Lal. Apart from Ramji Rao Speaking, they worked together in In Harihar Nagar, Godfather, Hitler, Chronic Bachelor, and Friends.

Rahman

Rahman (born Rashin Rahman) is an Indian film actor who has starred in over a 150 films, primarily Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. In Tamil and Telugu cinema, he is also known by the screen names Raghuman and Raghu. Rahman made his debut in Koodevide.

Popular films in which he appeared are Kanamarayathu, Chilambu, Thammil Thammil, Pappan Priyappetta Pappan, Uyarangalil, Vaartha, Upaharam, Poomukhappadiyil Ninneyum Kathu, Ee Thanalil Ithiri Nerum, Ee Lokam Evide Kure Manushyar, Kandu Kandarinju, Mukthi, Charithram, Kaalal Pada, Veena Meettiya Vilangukal and Aparatha.

Shankar

Shankar Panicker is an Indian film actor and director, popularly known as Shankar in Malayalam films. A superstar of the early eighties, he was the most prominent romantic lead actor of Malayalam cinema after Prem Nazir. Galatta Cinema magazine described him as the True romantic hero of Mollywood in their special edition on 100 years of Indian cinema.

Manoj K Jayan

Manoj K Jayan has won three Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor, respectively for his portrayals of Hariharan’s “Kuttan Thampuran” in Sargam (1992), “Thalakkal Chandu” in Pazhassi Raja (2009) and “Kunjiraman” in Farook Abdul Rahman’s Kaliyachan. His most critically acclaimed characters are “Kuttan Thampuran” (Sargam), “Digambaran” (Anandabhadram) and “Thalakkal Chandu” (Pazhassi Raja).

Babu Antony

He made his debut in Bharathan’s Chilampu. He made a mark in Malayalam cinema through Fazil’s 1986 thriller Poovinu Puthiya Poonthennal. The film was remade in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi and Babu Antony reprised his role in all the five versions. His career highlights include Vaishali (1988), Aparahnam (1991), and Uppukandam Brothers (1993).
