Full dress rehearsal ahead of Republic Day, security tightened

Republic Day honors the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act as the governing document of India.

Three days before the Republic Day, a full dress rehearsal will be held today. The rehearsal will have the same route as that of the Parade on Republic Day. The Parade rehearsal began at 09.50 am today from the Vijay Chowk and will proceed to Red Fort.

This year is India’s 69th Republic Day which will be attended by the 10 heads of Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN leaders.

 In a first, the Republic Day celebrations will have 10 chief guests. The heads are from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Brunei – will be hosted in this year’s celebrations.

The Delhi Traffic Police has made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the Parade.

As per reports, all offices in the surrounding areas of Rajpath are expected to be closed till 1 pm.

Traffic from Vijay Chowk to India Gate on Rajpath has been closed from Monday evening and no traffic will be allowed until the parade is over today. Similarly, traffic will not be allowed at Rafi Marg, Janpath and Man Singh Road till the parade is over.

Metro rail services will remain available for the commuters’ at all metro stations during the full dress rehearsal parade.

However, boarding and de-boarding at Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan will not be permitted till 12 noon and Lok Kalyan Marg and Patel Chowk from 8.45 am to 12 noon today.
