But for this family, it was disappointment and anger.
A bride in Bihar fled with her boyfriend on her wedding night, prompting police to conduct raids in search of the absconding couple.
The bizarre incident took place in Darbhanga town, some 100km north of Patna, on Wednesday.
Puja Kumari who hails from Darima village in the district was married to Shekhar Kumar, a resident of neighboring Simari village in Madhubani district on Monday, February 5. The marriage was solemnized in the Qadirabad locality of Darbhanga district before a large number of guests.
The woman’s family, who live in Kolkata, had come to Darbhanga to perform the wedding rituals.
With the marriage ceremony over, the wedding party returned home the next day (Tuesday).
But the groom stayed with the woman’s family following a request from them.

The happiness in the family however vanished soon, when they noticed the bride missing from the home.
They launched a frantic search for the missing bride but failed to locate her despite all efforts.
The woman’s father eventually registered a case with the local police station.
In the complaint petition filed with the police, the girl’s father has named two persons as accused.
Police are investigating the case and conducting raids to find the absconding bride. Reports said the bride fled with her Kolkata boyfriend who had come to attend her wedding.
The groom’s family say they will not welcome the bride even if she is found by the police.
