The Summit: Where, Why and Who?

Friday’s summit is at the peace house of village of Panmunjom, a demilitarized zone located between the borders. It is a popular tourist site and has been a place for inter-state talks for long.

Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moonjae’s one day summit will possibly include talks, a tree planting ceremony, and a joint announcement. Kim will have a host of high-level officials to accompany him to the event.

There are different theories running around regarding what prompted this meeting at this point, however, we prefer to watch the outcome and make comments. But there has been a marked change in the tone of the North Korean leader from a war-like rhetorthe ic to mild talks about peace.

The possible topics of discussion

Kim has said that he hoped for a “frank” discussion in their opening interaction. The two leaders can be expected to discuss a peace treaty to formally end the Korean war of 1950s. The de-nuclearisation of the Korean peninsula could be another issue that will be discussed. It may also prepare the stage for talks between Trump and Kim in the days to come. Trump had earlier called Kim an ‘honourable’ man.
