India’s cleanest cities : Swachh Sarvekshan 2018 ratings out

The results for Swachh Survekshan 2018 has been announced by Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs. Under Swachch Survekshan2018, 4203 cities in urban India were surveyed from January 4 to March 10, 2018This was the first pan Indian exercise to assess cleanliness in urban India. In the Swachch Survekshan 2018, Indore in Madhyapradesh has retained its title of being India’s cleanest city. The second position is occupied by Bhopal and in the third is Chandigarh. Bhopal is holding the second cleanest city title for two years in a row and Chandigarh improved its rank from 11 in 2017.

Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh has shown a wonderous improvement from its 351th rank in 2017to 36th rank in 2018! As a result, Ghaziabad has found a special mention as the fastest moving big city of Swachch Survekshan 2018. The best performing states are Jharkhand followed by Maharashtra.

North: Bhalso, Punjab

West: Panchgani, Maharashtra

Total marks for assesment in Swachch Survekshan 2018 has shown an increase from previous 2000 to 4000. Respective increase in weightages has been given to category assessment of ODF(Open Defecation Free) progress, collection and transportation of waste and processing of solid waste. The basis for this pan India service is the data submitted by civic bodies on cleanliness and sanitation, as well as feedback from citizens.
