A truck with cement packets overturned on a busy Bhavnagar – Ahmedabad highway in Western Gujarat. Police said 19 labourers were crushed under the cement Packets and died. They were all going to work in fields in Anand district. “19 persons including 12 women, three teenagers and four men were killed when the truck coming from Pipavav Port overturned on the Ahmedabad -Dholera highway” said police superintendent R V Asari. He said that it appeared that the driver had fallen asleep while driving which caused the truck to skip off the road and flip.

“We are currently engaged in rescue operations. How the accident occurred needs to be investigated. Primarily it appears that the driver dozed off” said Asari.
Indian roads see a lose of about 150000 lives on it annually. The pathetic condition of the roads coupled with careless driving on a poorly maintained vehicle is the cause of many of these deaths.
