Party offices of the CPI (M), BJP were targeted in Bengal

Party offices were attacked in two places, one belongs to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was attacked in Kolkata while a party office of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was targeted in West Bengal Jhargram district. The attacks were reported late on Tuesday evening.

CPI (M) supporters said that the attack at Surya Sen Street, party office in Kolkata took place when supporters Students’ Federation of India (SFI) had gathered to pay homage to a school teacher and social activist Barun Biswas, who was killed in July 2012.

“Suddenly about 30 TMC cadres barged into the office and tried to disrupt the event. They were driven out by our workers,” Sangram Chatterjee, CPI(M) Kolkata district Committee member told.

At Jhargram, miscreants attacked the party office of BJP in ward number 14 of the town. BJP has done well in the recently held panchayat polls in the district. Sayantan Basu, spokesperson of BJP said that State general secretary Subrata Chatterjee and others were inside the party office when it the attack took place. A number of vehicles were destroyed in minor and few of party supporters sustained injuries, he said. Later a large contingent of police arrived to bring the situation under control.

The Trinamool Congress leadership has refused any role in both incidents of violence.
