A Candy Forced a London bound AirIndia Flight to Make an Emergency Landing on Budapest!

If you see a candy inside a passenger aircraft, you will never think of it to hold the potential to force an emergency landing. But it is exactly what happened to the London bound flight from NewDelhi, as a woman 78 years old, identified as Preetpal Kaur , had a candy lodged in her respiratory pipe. The women could have choked to death but a doctor couple on board acted on time to save her. The woman regained consciousness after the couple resuscitated her for 40 minutes.

It was Dr Anupam Goel and Dr Misha — the couple who work at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital who had to  fight against the lack of equipment on board, but tried their heart out to resuscitate the Women.

“Her blood pressure was also unrecordable. The patient was gasping. Her left pupil was dilated, which suggested neuro involvement. There was also wheezing, which suggested respiratory involvement. The cause of respiratory distress wasn’t clear at that time,” said Dr Goel. The successful endeavour of Doctors were cheered by passengers and crew on board as they gifted them a bottle of Champagne.

The pilots in the meantime managed to find a spot for emergency landing in Budapest. The emergency care later took over the medical management.

The culprit was a gummy bear that got stuck in to her airway and Budapest Airport medical service removed it which helped her revive breathing and circulation.
