Man shot dead by two youths amid the attempts to harass his daughter

A 65-year-old man was gunned down and died allegedly by two youths for opposing their attempts to harass his daughter, police said on Monday. The incident occurred yesterday in the Rampuri area here, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ombir Singh told.

A case has been registered against Kirshanpal and Vishal. They are at large and a search has been launched to catch them, the officer said. The man was killed for defending their eve-teasing, Singh said, adding that the convicted are residents of the same locality as that of the victim, the SP said.

In this case, instead of feeling ashamed of their deeds, the eve-teasers felt emboldened enough to kill the father of the girl due to a misplaced sense of pride.

According to women activists and She Teams, at least eight cases of stalking are registered every month – disturbingly, almost 25 percent of the victims of stalking are minors aged between 15 to 17 years of age. Unfortunately, women face eve-teasing and harassment almost daily, in almost all spheres of their life.

This fact only gains significance in the wake of the global #MeToo movement which highlights the fact that the female gender, irrespective of their social status and place of residence, has always received the short end of the stick.
